Bill Ware and the Y2K Jazz Quartet: Keeping Up With the Jones’

Bill Ware is a highly accomplished vibist, and pianist Jonathan Crayford, bassist Brad Jones, and drummer Victor Jones, are likewise all skillful players. Moreover they listen well and create a consistently cohesive group sound. Ware evokes not so much other vibes players as McCoy Tyner, interestingly enough. The hard-boppish “A Meager Existence” is quite a nice track, but I found some of the longer harmonic structures lacking in tension and, probably as a result, the solos didn’t hold my attention so well.
