A concert celebrating the 90th birthday of piano icon Thelonious Monk (pictured) will take place at the Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom in New York on Jan. 26th. Bill Cosby will host and the guests include T.S. Monk (Monk’s son), along with Ben Riley and the Monk Legacy Septet.
The musicians will perform Monk’s compositions and attendees will also be treated to a special viewing of rare Monk moments, provided by Reelin’ in the Years, which recently released a newly unearthed video of Thelonious Monk performing live in Europe. Other special guests for the evening include vocalist Carolyn Leonhart, saxophonist Wayne Escoffery, as well as Sam Newsome and winners of the Thelonious Monk International Trumpet Competition 2007 Ambrose Akinmusire and Jean Caze.
The program begins at 8:00 PM and the venue is located at 311 West 34th Street.
