BET Jazz to Broadcast Harlem Jazz Special

Tired of flipping through the TV channels? Here’s a chance to put down the remote: BET Jazz will air a new documentary on the role of jazz in Harlem. Titled Sounds of Harlem: A Salute to Music, the broadcast will air in celebration of Black Music Month and will premier on June 12.

Featured in the program is commentary from Wynton Marsalis, Joe Sample, Paquito Rivera, Arturo O’Farrill, U.S. Congressman Charles B. Rangel, Apollo Theatre restorer Percy E. Sutton, Bill Cosby, Maya Angelou and others. Sounds of Harlem will also pay tribute to Tito Puente by reuniting his children, friends and collaborators for a jam session.

Sounds of Harlem will air on June 12 and June 26 at 11 a.m., 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. The program will also air on June 21 at noon, 8 p.m. and midnight EST.
