Berklee College of Music Campus to be Built in Valencia, Spain

Berklee College and Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE) have announced a partnership to build a new music college in Valencia, Spain. The 27-story college, Berklee Valencia, is scheduled to open in 2011 and will be the largest offshore U.S. music college in the world.

Valencia will specialize in contemporary music education, offering programs that will bring a new type of music education to Europe. The unique undergraduate and graduate curriculum will offer five main areas of study: music for film and integrated media, electronic production and design, global music and entertainment management, symphonic band studies, and Mediterranean music.

On October 16th, Berklee and SGAE officials broke ground on the college’s site, a cultural complex called ARTeria Valencia, part of a group of performance and education spaces being constructed by SGAE. The ARTeria has centers in Spain, Mexico City and Buenos Aires, each with space for dance, music, audio/visual work and theater, recording studios, classrooms and SGAE offices.

Valencia will enroll 1,000 students with an emphasis on Spain, Europe, Spanish-speaking countries, Africa, and the Middle East.
