Who doesn’t love the Beatles? Their songs are near perfectly crafted, lending themselves easily to reinterpretation in almost any shape or style. Perhaps this is what drummer/percussionist Brian Melvin and pianist Dave Kikoski were thinking when they released their most recent Beatlejazz album, With a Little Help From Our Friends, on Lightyear in April.
Regardless of their original intentions, the jazzed-up Beatles songs will be center stage at New York’s Iridium Jazz Club from Aug. 18-21 as Melvin, Kikoski and bassist Boris Kozlov perform their four-day tenure at the club. Beatlejazz will play two sets each night, one at 8 p.m. and the other at 10 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling (212) 582-2121 or by going to www.iridiumjazzclub.
