The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music loves those pianist/educators. BCM has announced that pianist/educator Barry Harris will receive the second annual Brooklyn Conservatory of Music Award, which was given to Billy Taylor last year. The award carries a $25,000 cash prize. Harris will receive the award at BCM’s gala on Sept. 24. As a leader and accompanist, Harris has performed with such legends as Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, Miles Davis, and Max Roach. He has been active in jazz education since the 1950s. On April 21, Harris will perform at the BCM.
Tickets for the gala and concert are available by calling (718) 622-3300.
