Bad Plus Set to Release New Album

We know you’ve always wondered what a jazz cover of Queen’s “We Are the Champions” would sound like–it’s been on our wish list for years. Thankfully, the Bad Plus is set to release its latest album, Blunt Object: Live in Tokyo, and it includes not only “We Are the Champions,” but also covers of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” and a nice, traditional “My Funny Valentine.”

The eight-track album, the first from the group since last year’s Give, won’t be available in stores. Beginning April 5, hard copies of the album will be available on the Bad Plus’ Web site (www.thebadplus.com); on May 3, the album will be available for digital download on iTunes. Other digital music providers will begin selling the album on May 31.

As the album’s name indicates, Blunt Object: Live in Tokyo is a live set recorded at the Blue Note in Tokyo in May 2004 (with the exception of “My Funny Valentine,” which was recorded at New York’s Roulette in December 2001).
