B.B. King: Makin’ Love Is Good for You

B.B.’s Makin’ Love Is Good for You (MCA 088 112 241-2; 55:00) is a reprise of his self-produced, no-nonsense, Grammy-winning album from 1998, Blues on the Bayou. Again recorded at Dockside Studio in the bayou country of southwest Louisiana, this one showcases B.B. with his relentlessly touring band in an eclectic program of slow blues (“Ain’t Nobody Like My Baby”), ballads (“Since I Fell for You,” “Peace of Mind”), New Orleans R&B (“I Know”), infectious, organ-fueled shuffles (“Monday Woman,” “You’re on Top”), upbeat funk (B.B.’s “Actions Speak Louder than Words,” A.C. Reed’s “I’m in the Wrong Business,” Tony Joe White’s title track). All of B.B.’s righteous signatures are fully in effect here and the eight-piece band provides typically slick, solid accompaniment throughout.
