Astor Piazzolla: Tangos and Milongos

The continuing saga of nuevo-tango innovator Astor Piazzolla continues after his death. The newest addition to the growing roster of posthumous Piazzolla releases is a new production and CD release of a 1965 work by the composer, based on poems by Jorge Louis Borges, called Tangos and Milongos (Milan 73138; 39:32). Veteran bandleader and bandoneon player Daniel Binelli assembled the project, with obvious affection and dedication. Poems read in Spanish by Lito Cruz, with additional vocals by Jairo, make this a different, more literary work in the expanding pantheon of available Piazzolla recordings, but one which adds dimension to the legacy of a tango king.
