Arthur Adams: Back On Track

Far more varied in his approach is Arthur Adams. On Back on Track, the singer-guitarist also proves himself a prolific songwriter with a penchant for Stax-styled soul (the title track and “Who Does She Think She Is”) along with confessional ballads (“Rehabilitation Song”) and straight, stinging blues (“Backup Man”). Guest B.B. King applies his signature touch to two Adams originals, the easy grooving “Get You Next to Me” and the minor key lament “The Long Haul,” reminiscent of B.B.’s classic “The Thrill Is Gone.” Adams’ trebley, piercing guitar tones are a nice complement to his buttery smooth, soul-drenched vocal delivery. Although he’s been paying his dues since the late ’50s, Adams is only now starting to get some national recognition. This fine album may be a new beginning for a seasoned talent.
