Armen Donelian Named Fulbright Scholar

Pianist and composer Armen Donelian (pictured left), who has played with Sonny Rollins, Lionel Hampton, Joe Lovano Lee Konitz and many others, received a Fulbright Scholar Award for 2001-2002. Donelian will travel to Armenia in March, 2002 to teach for three months as a Fulbright Lecturer at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory.

Donelian, born in New York City to Armenian parents, has already performed in Armenia three times since 1998. To promote jazz education, Donelian founded the Jazz in Armenia Project, a master class residency by invitation of the Yerevan Conservatory and NAB Artists Management. Donelian will use his positions as Fulbright Lecturer and artist-in-residence at the conservatory to continue the Jazz in Armenia Project in 2002.
