Andrew Hill Opens Spring Series at William Paterson

Blue Note recording artist Andrew Hill is scheduled to open William Paterson University’s prestigious Spring Jazz Room Series. The event will feature composer-pianist Hill with Eric McPherson on drums and John Herbert on bass, as well as a performance by the William Paterson student jazz ensemble.

The show will be held on Feb. 11 at 4 p.m., in William Paterson’s Shea Center for Performing Arts. An informal discussion on jazz, “Sittin’ In,” will be held prior to the performance, at 3 p.m. Tickets to the event are $15 standard, $12 for senior citizens, and $8 for students, and can be obtained by phoning (973) 720-2371.

Andrew Hill is the recipient of the prestigious Danish JazzPar Award. He has performed with numerous notable musicians, including Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. Hill was named the Jazz Journalists Association’s Jazz Composer of the Year in 2003, and in 2006 released his most recent album, the critically acclaimed Time Lines.

The Spring Series continues with legendary drummer Horacee Arnold’s quartet on Feb. 18, the Wycliffe Gordon Quartet on Feb. 25, Gil Lopez on March 4, vocalist Jackie Cain on March 18 and pianist Mulgrew Miller on Apr. 27.
