Ambassador Armstrong

As part of its 13-month 100 Years of Armstrong celebration, Jazz at Lincoln Center will produce several events in March exploring Louis Armstrong’s influential role as an ambassador of jazz. On March 17, Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra will perform

“Jazz Around the World,” as part of its “Jazz For Young People” series. On March 22 and 24, LCJO with Marsalis will perform a concert program called “Pops: The Ambassador of Swing” featuring songs Armstrong adapted from other countries. On March 26, bassist Arvell Shaw will share his Armstrong tour stories with WKCR host and record producer Phil Schaap as part of the “The Armstrong Lecture Series.” For more information, call: (212) 721-6500.
