The jazz community in New York City will come together this weekend, Jan. 25-26, to hold a series of benefit concerts for George Cables, the pianist and composer. Cables is recuperating at his Queens, NY home from a kidney and liver transplant and will be unable to perform again for some time. The benefit shows will take place at Sweet Rhythm (88 7th Ave. S. in Manhattan), with sets at 8 PM, 10 PM and midnight, with all musicians donating their time. Reservations are strongly advised.
