Adventure Music to Launch New Imprint

Adventure Music, the three-year-old independent record label that is home to many Brazilian and South American artists, is set to launch a new imprint, Adventure Music America.

Adventure Music America, founded by the same people who run Adventure Music (Richard Zirinsky, Robert Corroon and Mike Marshall), will focus on a wide array of acoustic music, from Americana and bluegrass to jazz and folk.

“The concept for Adventure America was to create an outlet for our non-Brazilian work,” Zirinsky explains. “Mike [Marshall] and I both felt strongly that we needed to focus on some of the great Americana work that he and I have wanted to create over the last few years.”

According to Zirinsky, starting the imprint also served as a practical way to minimize confusion. “We did not want to confuse the many fans of our Brazilian catalog with these new Americana titles,” he said. “Creating a new imprint just for them was the direction we chose to take.”

Adventure Music America’s debut release, Now Hear This is the first recording in seven years from founder Marshall’s group Psychograss and is due out May 10. The band features fiddler Darol Anger, Todd Phillips (bass), Tony Trischka (banjo) and David Grier (guitar.)

“Our hope with Adventure America is to create a home for not only Mike’s American acoustic projects with Darol Anger and others, but to also have this new imprint become a base for so many of the incredible young artists we know who are looking for a label to release their respective work,” Zirinsky said. “Over the last few years we have received a great number of non-Brazilian submissions and many of them really impressed us.”

“Listeners can expect a new DUO CD from Mike Marshall and Darol Anger in the fall to coincide with their participation in the Winter Solstice tour this year; Mike and Darol are also recording with the amazing Swedish Trio “Vassen,” and we’re planning a new recording with them to be released next year,” Zirinsky said. “I am currently talking to several other acoustic artists who are interested in working with us and we hope to make some announcements soon on future releases for Adventure America.”

Adventure Music has 14 releases so far by artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ricardo Silveira, Moacir Santos and Gui Mallon.
