As part of this July’s Montreaux Jazz Festival, pianists will duke it out in the third annual Montreaux Jazz Solo Piano Competition. On July 17-19, up to 15 contestants will be chosen for a semi-final competition on July 20. Any interested pianist can enter by turning in an application and a recording. The recording must include both an original composition and version of either “On Green Dolphin Street” by Bronislaw Kaper or “Some Day My Prince Will Come” by Frank E. Churchill. The winner will receive 10,000 Swiss francs. Leo Tardin of Geneva and Daniel Szabo of Hungary were the two previous winners of the contest.
