The up-and-coming 482 Music label is releasing a compilation that traverses the new wave of Chicago improv as a way to kick off its new series. Document Chicago: New Jazz and Improvisation, released on September 30, features the Treehouse Project, Sticks & Stones, Jason Roebke’s Rapid Croche, tenor saxophonist Matt Bauder, GreyGhost, the Pavkovic Band, Dragons 1976, Triage, the Exciting Trio, Jason Adasiewicz-Jon Doyle, Phil Mosberg-Eric Roth Duo, Design Flaw, Bauder-Parker-Ajemian, and Bauder-Ramsdell-Bryerton.
What’s that you say? You’ve never heard of any of these artists? Well, you must be down with Ken Vandermark and the Chicago Underground Orchestra, not to mention the AACM and Von Freeman, so you’re obviously open to the edgier sounds of the Windy City.
