10-Volume Live DVD Set of Corea Performances to Be Released

If you’ve ever wanted to own 10 DVDs of Chick Corea’s live performances, now is your chance. Image Entertainment is set to release the DVD set Chick Corea: Rendezvous in New York on Sept. 20. The set was produced throughout the three-week recording of Corea’s double album Rendezvous in New York at New York’s Blue Note. The 10-volume box set is priced at $99.99.

Directed by David Niles, highlights include Corea reuniting with the nine different bands that he has lead throughout his career and duets with Gary Burton, Bobby McFerrin and Gonzalo Rubalcaba. Some noteworthy trios featured include the Chick Corea Akoustic Band (with John Patitucci and Dave Weckl), the “Now He Sings, Now He Sobs” Trio (with Miroslav Vitous and Roy Haynes) and the Remembering Bud Powell Band (with Terence Blanchard, Joshua Redman, Christian McBride and Roy Haynes). Also included are ensemble performances by Chick Corea & Origin (with Avishai Cohen, Jeff Ballard, Steve Wilson, Steve Davis and Tim Garland), the Chick Corea New Trio (with Avishai Cohen and Jeff Ballard) and the Three Quartets Band (with Michael Brecker, Steve Gadd and Eddie Gomez).

Niles captures every moment of Corea’s groundbreaking three-week long stint at the Blue Note. In addition to his performances, the set also includes the bonus DVD Rendezvous in New York: The Movie replete with rare glimpses of Corea with his various musicians off stage.
