Paul Wood shares photos from UK performance by blues singer/guitarist

At London’s Barbican on May 6, 2014, Robert Cray gave evidence that even after more than three decades he is still a “Strong Persuader.” Not that the audience needed much persuasion to appreciate Cray’s potent blend of blues and soul. During a 90-minute, 19-tune set all his trademarks were on display: Stinging, occasionally flamboyant guitar work, allied to his amazing ability to make even the most mundane lyrics seem almost autobiographical. During the encore an infectious re-working of Booker T’s “Green Onions” had people dancing in the aisles. Robert has a newly released album, In My Soul and this performance was part of 20-date European tour to promote it.
