Corea, Clarke, White kick off tour Sept. 2 at Hollywood Bowl
If you missed the Return to Forever reunion spectacle in 2008, too bad. But this fall, 3/4 of that group hits the road to begin what’s shaping up to be a pretty massive world tour.
The kickoff gig happens Sept. 2 at the Hollywood Bowl, where keyboardist Chick Corea, bassist Stanley Clarke and drummer Lenny White will let their fusion flag fly with some very special guests: Chaka Khan, who appeared with the trio plus Joe Henderson and Freddie Hubbard on 1982’s Echoes of an Era; fiery violinist Jean-Luc Ponty; and the original original RTF guitarist, Bill Connors. Check this clip of the Connors edition of RTF and let the Connors vs. Al Di Meola debates begin. Also on the bill that night is John Scofield’s Piety Street Band, the guitarist’s gospel-leaning group in which he sounds remarkably like B.B. King—not that there’s anything wrong with that.
