Nobu Stowe: An Die Musik

Pianist-composer Nobu Stowe, who left his native Japan to study music and psychology at UC Berkeley before moving to Chicago and then settling in Baltimore, indulges in Jarrett-esque song-oriented total improvisations here (à la Köln Concert), with keen-eared, reactive support from drummer Alan Munshower and tabla master Badal Roy. The unnamed spontaneous compositions unfold gradually and gracefully with an emphasis on melody and range from elegiac to uplifting to turbulent … just like a Keith Jarrett solo concert.
