Matt Rippetoe : Boink

Running through effects pedals and loop boxes, Matt Rippetoe’s saxophone takes on a perky, playful guise in compositions that are by turns dreamy, sneakily subversive or aggressively propulsive. He gets into a lot of tight interplay with the similarly tweaked-out guitar work of John Lee, as they bandy bop and fusion lines over Mark Foster’s bubbly electric bass and Larry Ferguson’s splashing drums. An eerily atmospheric mini-suite weaves through the proceedings, breaking up the program and keeping things off-balance.
