Gidon Kremer: Tango Ballet

Violinist Gidon Kremer, has followed up last year’s fine production of Piazzolla’s “operita,” “Maria de Buenos Aires” with another inspired package, Tango Ballet (Teldec 3984; 53:53). This one includes rarities from Piazzolla’s ouvre, the “Tango Ballet,” “Concierto del Angel,” and “Tres Piezas Para Orquestra de Camara Astor Piazzolla,” performed by a stellar cast of European musicians, along with his laudable young group, the Kremerata Baltica, from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. On top of this precision-geared setting, Kremer applies heat and virtuosity as soloist, giving Piazzolla’s music its due, in a new and revealing light.
