In novel acoustic duets, bassist Dominic Duval and drummer Jay Rosen cohesively interpret ten (mostly) original tunes. Rosen’s cymbals, toms, and percussion lightly punctuate and weave around Duval’s artfully plucked melody lines. But, by track three, you’re longing for graspable melodies. The high point arrives on track six with Duval’s virtuosic (and only) arco version of “Amazing Grace,” followed on track seven with a pizzicato interpretation. One must pay close attention to catch the musical subtleties in their spontaneous interplay.
