The 21st Istanbul Jazz Festival will take place at multiple venues within Turkey’s largest city from July 1-21. Among the scheduled shows is one that is part of the festival’s Strange Place for Jazz series, which will take place this year at Istanbul High School. That show, featuring bassist Derrick Hodge and the Children of the Light Trio (Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Brian Blade), is scheduled for July 4 at 7:45 p.m.

The Istanbul Jazz Festival is also introducing “Jazz at Parks,” a new project that, according to a press release, “will bring together accomplished young jazz musicians from Turkey and the distinguished figures of the international jazz world on the same stage.” The Jazz at Parks event will take place at the Nişantaşı Arts Park July 5 at 6 p.m. and will be free of charge with two open-air stages. The headliner of the Jazz at Parks concert will be the New Orleans jazz pianist Jon Batiste & Stay Human. The event also features the nine-piece Polish band Mitch & Mitch, as well as five finalists in the Young Jazz series: Baturay Yarkın Trio, Cazzip Project, Mikado, Nom Trio and the Tümer Uluçınar Quartet.

The second week of the festival will begin with percussionist Manu Katché, bassist Richard Bona, Belgian pianist Eric Legnini and Italian saxophonist Stefano di Battista.
