Neil C. Young
From the album Encemble
Neil C. Young
UK jazz guitarist Neil C Young is a gifted guitarist who is establishing his unique talent internationally and is an award nominee both nationally and internationally
Taking the funk of John Scofield, Jim Hall’s harmonic world and cool of George Benson, Neil C. Young is ‘full of soul and energy’ and, ‘the arrangements are beautiful’, writes Eric Elias from the US magazine “Just Jazz Guitar Magazine”.
Neil’s music is ‘harmonically sophisticated’ said Bill Milkowski (writer of the biography of Jaco Pastorius) and Keith Ames, of the Musicians Union adds that it is ‘Excellent feel good instrumental jazz’
Neil C. Young Trio releases ‘Encemble’ this spring which extends the line-up beyond the trio found on previous albums. He writes for solo guitar, guitar and bass clarinet duo and then the full 8 piece line up of 4 horns (Bass Clarinet/Clarinet, Baritone Saxophone and 2 Trumpets), 2 kits and Guitar and Bass guitar completing the ‘Encemble’
Canadian American Records are set to release the new album and have also released singles from past albums in support of their ‘International Jazz artist’ and have nominated Neil for a Grammy award in 2011(Jazz solo), 2012 (Jazz album) and 2014 (Jazz single)
In a contemporary musical climate, which is often overcrowded with an eclectic range of guitar styles, Neil not only acknowledges these various influences, but also displays an in-depth knowledge of performance and composition, which were key to his studies with Gary Boyle and with Fred T Baker at renowned Birmingham Conservatoire.
Away from the confines of the studio, Neil C Young gives exciting and fresh live performances, which feature beautiful harmonic interpretations of both standards, and original compositions.
