JazzFest Berlin 2005
Nov 02 - Nov 06, 2005
The artistic ideas behind JazzFest Berlin have documented, supported and borne witness to the musical developments in jazz for over four decades and reflect the variety of creative musicianship. Founded in 1964 as the “Berliner Jazztage”, the festival has earned a reputation as a progressive jazz event of Europe-wide repute which is nevertheless mindful of tradition. Established “stars” of jazz from the United States are present in the same programme as musicians who have led jazz in the direction of electronics, pop, ethnic or new music. Here the mainstream is consistently challenged by creative experiment. Contrasting styles emerge in tests of collaborative strength. Whether using pan-pipes or a laptop, with or against each other, these contrasts are the catalysts for brilliance! The festival’s media partner ARD, the Public Broadcasting Corporations in Germany, documents the proceedings with recordings of the concerts on both the large and small JazzFest stages in the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.
