The 4th Annual Zoot Fest tickets are now available for a day of jazz music in honor of Al Cohn and Zoot Simms. Put on by the Al Cohn Memorial Collection at East Stroudsburg University it is a relaxed afternoon of music, mirth and remembrance to benefit jazz education and preservation.
On November 9th 2014 the fourth annual Zoot Fest will be held from 12pm-6pm in the Innovation Center at East Stroudsburg University. The day will include a wide array of jazz musicians highlighting a large age span as well as diversity in music and will also give insight into the history of jazz. The day kicks off with the Patrick McGee group; a band comprised of young new musicians budding on the scene. This will be followed by an open panel discussion about Al Cohn and Zoot Sims and their influence on their craft, which will be led by Bill Dobbins. After lunch, more music will abound with a jam session led by drummer Bill Goodwin. The main performance of the day will celebrate the music of Zoot Sims performed by; Larry McKenna-tenor saxophone, Bill Mays-piano, Steve Gilmore-bass, and Tom Whaley-drums. The day will close out with the recreation of the music from “Al Cohn and the Natural Seven” featuring; Warren Vache-trumpet, Lew Tabackin-tenor saxophone, John Mosca-trombone, Joe Cohn-guitar, Bill Dobbins-piano, Bill Crow-bass, and Bill Goodwin-drums.
Seating in the Innovation Center is limited and advance purchase is strongly recommended. The $50 per person admission fee includes the program plus a lunch buffet with drinks, dessert and other refreshments. A $25 ticket for students with ID will include lunch, soft drinks and special seating. The Innovation Center is located at 562 Independence Road, East Strodusburg PA 18301.
