"How Deep is the Ocean?" A concert in memory of Jimmy Scott featuring Sam Mickens & Mike Pride's From Bacteria to Boys

Jul 25, 2014 08:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Singer Sam Mickens and drummer/bandleader Mike Pride present an evening of songs famously and indelibly recorded by both men’s favorite singer of all time, the recently departed jazz ballad giant Jimmy Scott.

“Sui Generis crooner-songsmith”[Timeout NY] Sam Mickens has recorded and toured extensively since his teens, as the leader of The Dead Science, under his own name with his recent NY-based projects, and as a collaborator with artists including Parenthetical Girls, Xiu Xiu, Deerhoof, Carla Bozulich, Craig Wedren, and many others.
The distinctly gifted drummer/composer Mike Pride is prolifically active as a leader/accompanist in a wide variety of groups and genres: metal, noise, avant-garde rock, free music, and modern jazz, and has worked with everyone from improvised music icon Anthony Braxton to punk legends Millions of Dead Cops. His quartet From Bacteria to Boys has released two critically acclaimed records on AUM Fidelity.
