Freedom of Sound: Eric Dolphy
May 30 - May 31, 2014
Seed Artists presents Freedom of Sound: Eric Dolphy, a two-day celebration of the of the visionary multi-instrumentalist and composer's life, music and legacy to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his passing. More than 30 world-class musicians, from legends of the Sixties avant garde to today's young innovators. And much more: debut compositions and new interpretations of Dolphy's music; a bass-clarinet quintet; solo cello with dancer; vocal interpretation; the poetry of Michael S. Harper; a symposium featuring Gunther Schuller, Richard Davis, James Newton and John Szwed, PhD; photography and educational exhibits; food trucks, wine...
Best of all, proceeds help to support the good works of Seed Artists' event partners: the Jazz Foundation of America, to aid elderly and ailing musicians and bring jazz to underserved schools, and the Montclair Academy of Dance and Laboratory of Music (MADLOM), for tuition scholarships to at-risk children.
At Memorial Auditorium, Montclair State University. A short ride from Manhattan, and only $20 each day, $25 day of show. Come help us celebrate Dolphy's genius and do some good in the process.
