Sten Hostfalt Modern Jazz & Blues Guitar Masterclasses at NYC Guitar Studio
Nov 21 - Dec 23, 2014
Manhattans NYC Guitar Studios November-December 2013 Creative Guitar Masterclasses presents acclaimed 6-string virtuoso Sten Hostfalt illustrating translations of blues, jazz, folk and root music forms into new original modern expressions involving systematic use of 24, 33 and 72 notes to the octave.
As a self-taught guitarist and composer from a remote, humble, working class background that by chance included early didactic encounters with blues guitar greats Big Joe Williams, Clarence Gatemouth Brown and jazz piano master Horace Parlan, Sten Hostfalt apprenticed in large jazz orchestras led by Phil Wilson, Herb Pomeroy and George Russell and was introduced on the early 90's International jazz scene through mentors legendary icons of American Music Jimmy Giuffre, Paul Bley and Joe Maneri, and as a member of Guillermo Kleins pioneering large ensemble.
His work as a composer, solo performer and bandleader in the new millennium, through his own independent New York label, Sonus Rex and his educational Manhattan studio facility NYC Guitar Studio is characterized by a continuously pronounced innovative commitment to uphold and develop the traditions.
