“I am very proud to be able to perform in the U.S., especially at the world renowned venue, Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley in Seattle. Thank you very much for this wonderful opportunity. I am so thrilled and look forward to sharing a variety of jazz pieces, such as slow, swing, Latin, and Japanese with you. See you on September 30th!” ---Aki Miyafuji
Born in Kyoto, Aki Miyafuji was fascinated with standard jazz music and started singing in 1994. After taking lessons at an institute of music, she became a professional jazz vocalist. In 2000, Aki studied with Takashi Furuya, a well-known saxophone player in the Kansai area, to brush up her voice and singing techniques. She had a chance to share the stage with Kimmie Horne, a niece of Lena Horne, in Detroit, MI, in 2005. Kimmie has been a very good friend of hers since then and now Aki respects her as a mentor and friendly rival. Recently, Aki regularly performs as a member of jazz vocal duo, Gee Baby, mainly in Kyoto.
