Satchmo SummerFest is the premier free festival dedicated to the life, legacy, and music of Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong and takes place during Armstrong’s birthday – August 1, 1900. The 13th annual Satchmo SummerFest features a weekend of New Orleans contemporary and traditional jazz, brass bands, and more from several of the city’s most well-known musicians. Exciting featured special events include seminars about Louis Armstrong and New Orleans music inside the Louisiana State Museum’s Old US Mint, Children’s area full of umbrella and Zulu Coconut decorating, dance lessons at the Cornet Chop Suey Stage, and a Jazz Mass at St. Augustine Church followed by a second line parade to the Mint.
