French Quarter Festival 30th Anniversary
Apr 11 - Apr 14, 2013
Founded in 1984 to bring locals back to the French Quarter during construction for the World’s Fair and to showcase the rich culture of New Orleans, French Quarter Festival has grown from one stage in Jackson Square with only a few food and beverage booths to the largest FREE festival in the South. This year, French Quarter Festival celebrates the 30th Anniversary of this event. French Quarter Festival is touted by tourism officials as the “official kickoff to the festival season in New Orleans.” The festival features 21 stages scattered throughout the Quarter with over 400 hours of free, local music showcasing more than 1,400 musicians from several different genres including traditional jazz, Cajun/Zydeco, and rock! French Quarter Festival is also home to more than 60 of the best and most well-known restaurants in New Orleans including Antoine’s, Tujague’s, Desire Oyster Bar, R'evolution, and Royal House!
Along with four full days of free music and great New Orleans cuisine, French Quarter Festival also hosts a variety of special events in the Quarter including free dance lessons at the French Market Stage, Opera at Dusk on the balconies of the Louisiana State Museum’s Cabildo and the Pontalba Apartments, two children’s areas located at the Riverfront and Hermann-Grima House, seminars on the history of New Orleans and the role music plays in New Orleans culture, fireworks over the Mississippi River, and so much more.
