An Afternoon with Arturo Sandoval
Oct 21, 2012 04:30 PM - 07:00 PM
From music legends Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Sinatra to modern artists like Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys, Arturo Sandoval has performed with countless stars across the world, and now he is coming to Baytown. On Sunday, Oct. 21, the legendary trumpeter, pianist and composer will join the Baytown Symphony Orchestra (BSO) for a live performance at Lee College.
The concert, entitled “An Afternoon with Arturo Sandoval,” is the first performance of the Orchestra’s 45th season.
Born in Artemisa, a small town on the outskirts of Havana, Cuba, Sandoval began studying classical trumpet at age 12, but soon fell in love with the excitement of the jazz world. A protégé of Dizzy Gillespie, Sandoval has won six Grammy Awards, six Billboard Music Awards and one Emmy for the underscore of the HBO movie, “For Love or Country,” based on his life.
"An Afternoon with Arturo Sandoval" will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, in the Lee College Performing Arts Center. The concert is partially underwritten by the Houston Endowment. Ticket prices range from $35 - $65 and are now on sale.
