Highly Exceptional according to legendary pioneer of American Music Jimmy Giuffre and recognized as groundbreaking, inimitable, brilliant and impressive by leading international press/media, for his regular live in concert and recorded explorations of new original self-invented techniques to interpret mentor Joe Maneri's 72 note equal tempered virtual continuum on the standard 6 string/12 fret guitar. A conglomerate of self-taught and classically trained and of DIY and Academic, Swedish-born American Jazz guitar virtuoso and composer Sten Hostfalt apprenticed in traditional large jazz orchestras led by Phil Wilson, Herb Pomeroy and George Russell, before being introduced on the 90's New York City Jazz scene at Smalls as a member of an edition of Guillermo Klein's ensemble that NY Times called 'one of the better continuing experiments in NYC' and featured on Klein's El Minotauro, listed by NPR as one of the past decades most influential recordings. Developing his own original music and as a solo performer/bandleader live in concert worldwide ever since the 1992/2001 recorded Paul Bley initiated debute CD, and the acclaimed '02 landmark solo album 29 Pieces For The Microtonal Guitar Live At Knitting Factory New York. Subsequent solo, duo and quartet releases and concert performances, have explored multiple formats, orchestrations and styles, featured some of the world's most influential improvisers and included appearances as a featured soloist and leader at prestigious concert venues like New York's Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall. A recipient of artist grants & awards from the Swedish Cultural Council For The Arts ASCAP, Berklee College and NEC and a former faculty member of The Royal College Of Music in Stockholm, Mr. Hostfalt's current work include solo concerts at Symphony Space with original arrangements of standards from the American Songbook. And a continuation of 4 years of work in 60 concerts and the 2011 CD release Now Matter (Sonus Rex) with NY downtown scene mainstay saxophonist Blaise Siwula. As well as creating microtonal music for contemporary dance together with dance artist Savina Theodorou.
SAVINA THEODOROU Dance Artist
A dynamic performer according to The New York Times, dance artist Savina Theodorou was born in Greece, where she graduated from a professional dance school in Athens. After working with various artists and teaching creative movement in Europe, she moved to New York City in 2001. Since then she has collaborated with various choreographers in New York. Most recently with Donna Uchizono, Levi Gonzales, Ellis Wood, Ashley Friend, among others and has since been a member of Deganit Shemy and Company since 2005. Performances include The Baryshnikov Art Center. Academic clinics, workshops and projects at Princeton University, Marymount College and Florida State University.
