SFJAZZ Collective Plays Stevie Wonder

Mar 10, 2012 07:30 PM - 11:00 PM

The SFJAZZ Collective is an all-star eight-piece ensemble that highlights the original compositions of its annually-rotating members as well as revisits and re-arranges famous compositions from past jazz masters. Having taken on jazz titans like John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Horace Silver, and Thelonious Monk in the past, the group will now explore the material of music icon Stevie Wonder, an artist outside of the jazz tradition, but one whose sophisticated song craft and timeless melodies are more than worthy of exploration. The Collective is comprised of saxophonists Mark Turner, Antonio Hart and Miguel Zenón, pianist Edward Simon, vibraphonist Stefon Harris, trumpeter Avishai Cohen, bassist Matt Penman, trombonist Robin Eubanks, and drummer Eric Harland.
