Enrico Pieranunzi Solo Concert
Nov 15, 2011 08:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Considered by many to be “The most lyrically inventive of contemporary pianists”, internationally renowned Italian pianist Enrico Pieranunzi performs a program from his new CD release entitled “1685”. This new CD, featuring the works of Bach, Handel and Scarlatti, extends and builds upon the earlier and very successful CD “Plays Scarlatti”. This evening’s performance coincides with the US release date of “1685” and there will be a meet the artist and CD signing following the performance.
“1685” extends and builds upon the earlier and very successful “Plays Scarlatti” but with something even more special. Indeed, that CD’s sonatas by the great Domenico were either the origin or endpoint of extemporaneous improvisations. Here, on the other hand, these selections from Handel, Bach and Scarlatti himself become actual “generators” of new works. Thus a Handel’s saraband gives birth to a soft, supple bossa nova, and an austere Bach chorale unexpectedly blossoms into a beguiling country music motif.
