For the past decade recognized by leading international press as one of today's most unique and original voices on the planet's most popular instrument, the guitar. Sten Hostfalt will in the first in a serie of solo performances of original arrangements of jazz standards from the Great American songbook, be playing in New York's West Village, only blocks from where he 18 years ago ( in 1994 ) played hIs first steady NYC gig and made his initial contribution to The New York Jazz scene, during the early years and inception of Mitch Borden's influential Smalls Jazz Club.
The 2008 CD Sten Hostfalt 'Quartet' ( Sonus Rex ) features material in the traditional songs format and compositions built on or derived from Jazz standards. Reflecting appearances on recordings, in concert or collaborations with legendary icons of Americans Music Paul Bley, Jimmy Giuffre, George Russell and Joe Maneri, Masters of Jazz Gary Burton, Peter Erskine, Rob McConnell and Bobby Shew. Shared events with Phil Woods, James Moody, Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen, Ray Brown, The Woody Herman Big Band, Mike Stern, Tim Berne, Moby and Keith Murray ( Def Squad ). And work alongside new generation Jazz luminaries Aaron Goldberg, Mark Turner, Chris Cheek, Jeff Ballard, Seamus Blake, Ingrid Jensen, Guillermo Klein and Matthew Garrison, at some of the world's most prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall's Isaac Stern Auditorium NYC.
