The press on Mulberry Street:
"When I first encountered "Mulberry Street", I was knocked out by its bold combinations of traditional sounds and contemporary jazz but it is so much more than that. The section writing is clean, clear and inventive, harmonies abound, the soloists first-rate, and the vision of the composer is fully realized. At a time when there are myriad large ensemble recordings, Jeff Fairbanks' Project Hansori is one of the most impressive and satisfying."-Richard Kamins, Step Tempest
"Asian folk music fused with modern jazz? You've got to hear it to believe it."
-Tammy Scileppi, Times Ledger
"First class sitting down jazz all the way...This is simply a dazzler throughout."
-Chris Spector, Midwest Record
"The compositions on trombonist Jeff Fairbanks' album Mulberry Street...sound very fresh". -Emilie Pons, CityArts

Join us on June 30 @ 8:00 PM for the long-anticipated release celebration for Mulberry Street, the debut album of Jeff Fairbanks' Project Hansori. With the album recorded in late 2009, and carefully edited over time, this event is over 18 months in the making. The venue, Moldy Fig, is a brand-new Jazz club on NYC's Lower East Side, that -like Project Hansori-is preparing for a grand opening of its own. The club is a work of art in itself, with a themed interior of strictly brick, wood, and brass, and a high ceiling over a great acoustic room.
JEFF FAIRBANKS' PROJECT HANSORI:
An exciting new sound of Asian folk music mixed with modern Jazz, 17-piece Jeff Fairbanks' Project Hansori (Korean for "one sound") performs the all original music of its leader. An in-demand composer and performer, and a recognized talent, Fairbanks has won national awards and recognition from ASCAP, BMI, IAJE, and numerous competitive grants from the American Music Center, the Copland Fund, and the Queens Council on the Arts. Here we will celebrate the release of Project Hansori's debut recording, Mulberry Street, on the Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records label. Featuring a cast of 22 musicians including guest bari saxophonist Fred Ho, this album of Fairbanks' original compositions and arrangements fuses East and West in an imaginative new setting.
NEWS FLASH!!! AARON COPLAND AWARD:
Mulberry Street just won a grant award from the Aaron Copland Fund For Music. The award is highly competitive, with the Boston Symphony Orchestra among the other awardees. The Copland Fund's purpose is to "encourage and improve public knowledge and appreciation of contemporary American music", and in addition to the prestige it carries, this grant greatly helps cover the enormous cost of producing and marketing a new recording. Along with Fairbanks' previous Recording Grant from the American Music Center, this makes two prestigious awards garnered for his debut recording, Mulberry Street. I think this composer is definitely onto something!
Mulberry Street is also currently on sale at the Downtown Music Gallery (Manhattan), at www.bjurecords.com, and at Amazon.com
