The Vermont Jazz Center is proud to present a concert with National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Master Kenny Barron with his Trio at the Latchis Theater on October 15th, 2011. Pianist Barron will be performing with bassist Kiyoshi Kitagawa and drummer Johnathan Blake.
With over a dozen Grammy nominations under his belt, Barron was voted “best pianist,” six times by the Jazz Journalist’s Association, and is an inductee to the American Jazz Hall of Fame. A partial list of the hundreds of recordings he has played on reads like a who’s who of jazz royalty and includes long tenures with Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Ron Carter, Joe Henderson and Freddie Hubbard. He has released 44 albums as a leader and composed the score for Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing.”
Bringing Kenny Barron to Brattleboro has been a decade-long dream of Vermont Jazz Center’s Artistic Director, Eugene Uman who was fortunate to study piano with Barron in the ‘80s. He feels that Barron is a wonderful match for Brattleboro and its extended community – high quality, accessible jazz that marries sophistication and innovation with a reverence for jazz standards and the beauty that they embody.
