The compositions and improvisations of Modern NYC Jazz Guitar Sensation / Composer Branislav Andonov, aka 'Bato The Yugo' or just 'Bato' has been heard frequently on New York City's music scene, in his traditional/modern Gypsy constellations for the past 15 years.
Having learned the traditions from family members in former Yugoslavia, and raised with Rock N Roll and Jazz, and early studies as a painter and visual artist, always by habit infusing his rich heritage with modern creative thought and with dazzling guitar playing as a modern version and the one and only truly representative, real counterpart of the globally oh so copied, mimicked, exploited and cloned ( but for the pure lack of true legacy in terms of creative thinking, typically misunderstood and misrepresented ) Gypsy Jazz guitar grandfather Django Reinhardt. While being just as unique as his forerunner, by default having his own unique sound and expression and therefore artistically operating on a level that although a rightful descendant, musically is very far from 30's and 40's swing, instead rather giving us a hint or idea of what Django's virtuosity might have sounded like if he'd been a child of our time.
Sure you've heard all those, by way of gimmickry or vague, remote association claim and market themselves as 'gypsy' and 'of the gypsy tradition', so now's the time to check the real thing out. Real Gypsy Jazz in the year 2010 - Branislav "Bato The Yugo" Andonov.
Bato is born, raised and developed straight out of the gypsy music tradition and also an academically trained Jazz Guitarist/Composer to boot, meaning in every way a true representative carrying that legacy, and although deserving it does not need the tag 'gypsy' as the music plus the fact that first rate Jazz musicians like Paul Motian, George Garzone and Steve Swallow choose to take an active part in his creative process - speaks for itself.
Seating limited, so come early to get a ticket for a rare live concert performance feat with one of the truly great improvising guitarists of our era. * www.batotheyugo.com * www.nublu.net
