Semifinals of Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition
Oct 03, 2010 01:00 PM - 05:00 PM
Hailed as the most prestigious jazz competition in the world, the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition is often compared in stature to classical music’s International Tchaikovsky Competition and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
This year’s Competition will feature jazz vocals and an illustrious judging panel of jazz greats including Patti Austin, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, Aretha Franklin, Al Jarreau, and Dianne Reeves.
Twelve of the world’s most outstanding young jazz vocalists will compete for over $100,000 in scholarships and prizes. Three Finalists will be chosen to perform the following evening at the Competition Finals & Gala Concert at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Semifinals will be held at the National Museum of the American Indian (4th St and Independence Ave SW, Washington, DC).
Tickets are free and available that day at the museum beginning at noon. For more information, call the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz at 202.364.7272.
