CHRIS BYARS QUARTET – A CELEBRATION OF TEDDY CHARLES
Jun 10, 2009 08:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Saxophonist, arranger, composer & international diplomat Chris Byars will premiere a new work on June 10, 2009 at Music on MacDougal at the Players Theatre in NYC. “Bop-ography” portrays the life of Teddy Charles in three sections; his arrival on the New York jazz scene, his move towards artistic seclusion and obscurity as a sea captain, and his triumphant 21st Century return. Byars will perform the 21-minute piece with the Chris Byars Quartet - Chris Byars (saxophone), John Mosca (trombone), Ari Roland (bass) and Stefan Schatz (drums) with special guests James Byars (oboe, English horn) and jazz legend Teddy Charles (vibraphone) himself. “Bop-ography” is made possible by a Chamber Music America New Works grant, sponsored by the Doris Duke Foundation. The Players Theatre is at 115 MacDougal St, New York, N.Y. The concert is at 8pm and tickets are $20. More info at (212) 352-3101
