Steven Kroon

Steven Kroon has been a professional musician for more than 35 years. Born in Harlem, and lived there until the age of nine, from Harlem he moved to St. Albans, Queens in 1957. His experience being raised in Queens was very influential. At the time, there were many great Jazz and R&B artists living right in the neighborhood. At home, he often listened to his father’s records, including Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez and Machito. When he would visit his friends, he would listen to all the great Jazz artists. Right in the neighborhood were Lester Young, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, Count Basie and many more. Also a great influence on Steve was the great producer Henry Glover, who lived right on his corner. With all that diversity and style, his musical appreciation began in those early years. At that early stage he progressed to playing percussion. His brother Bobby and Steve would practice along with the recordings of these great artists and Steve progressed to studying with various music teachers. Great influences on Steve were conga lessons with the great Tommy Lopez, Sr. and percussionist Dom Um Romao.
Steve began working with notables such as Luther Van Dross from 1981 to 2001, appearing on seven platinum albums and fifteen world tours, which include two live video performances. He also played on an array of television shows including The Tonight Show, David Letterman, Jay Leno, as well as the Grammy Awards. He also performed with Ron Carter from 1987 to 2004, which included extensive tours of the U.S., Japan and Brazil, as well as the well-known NY Jazz scene, including the Village
Vanguard, the Iridium, and The Blue Note chain from the U.S. to Japan. He has also recorded with much of the “Who’s Who” in the recording business, such as Ron Carter, Roberta Flack, Bill Cosby, Aretha Franklin, Diana Krall, just to name a few.

In the past five years Steve Kroon has working on his solo career, including four CD’s, “In My Path, Senor Kroon, El Mas All, and newly released Without a Doubt”, all under his label entitled “Kroonatune Records, LLC.” He is now enjoying the fruits of his labor by performing at various clubs, festivals and venues all around the country.
