Beverly Jackson
A native of Springfield,Ohio,at the age of five Beverly listened to what
was then called a Victrola. She began to listen to vocalist of old and
would try to mimic what she heard. Born, Beverly Allen, the oldest of
seven children always had an interest in music. She and her friend lead
solos in her church when she was about the age of 13.
She began to use her gift again at the age of 38. She attended Greater
Grace Temple in Springfield, Ohio under Pastors' Ronald and Monica Logan
where she shared her gift with her church. The wife of the late Melvin
Jackson and the mother of three children,& eight grandchildren recently
resided in Louisville,KY where she attended St. Stephens Church under
Pastors Dr. Kevin and Barnetta Cosby. She is a former member of the
Sanctuary Choir under direction of Rev.Tonya Triplett. Beverly has been
singing around the Community for A few years in Clark County as well as
Montgomery County. She now resides in Dayton,Ohio where she has
participated in Gospel Song Fest & other Church events. Inspired by a
friend, Tanda, Beverly started singing Jazz for the first time at Jazz
Central in April 2008 and I might ad, this was a whole new experience
for her. She also earlier appeared at Un Mundo Cafe for Muzika in
Springfield,Ohio under direction of Arlin "Par" Tolliver. Her youngest
brother Jeff, who also sings influenced her to participate in a jamm
session there one Saturday evening. She now sings at Jazz Central every
Sunday Night, accompanied & supported by Ken Baccus & Cliff Derrick,
Larry Smith, Greg Woods, Patrick Slaughter & Jazz Advocate Ron &
Rosemary Gable his jazz associates & John Wagner. Owner Of Jazz Central
Charles Stone & cousin Rhonda have been a support as well. Recently
Beverly had an opportunity to be accompanied by Lincoln Berry a
tremendous Organist from Dayton, Ohio. She also performed with The Women
In Jazz 2008 at Dave Hall Plaza. She will be returning with The Women In
Jazz 2009 this summer. Teresa Hunt is considered to be her mentor.
She has appeared with several area musicians and vocalist which include
Rick Evans, John Derrickson,
Roderick Wilson, David Simpson, Khalid Moss. Beverly supports jazz At
the Dayton Art Institute also.
Other appearances include: Gregory's Piano Bar, Cold Beer &
Cheeseburgers American Bar & Grill, For Jazz Advocate Ron Gable's 70th
Birthday Party, Blind Bob's, Cafe Blvd, The Cannery, The Dayton
International Airport, Country Clubs, Graduation & other Private
Birthday parties,The Ware Banquet Center, South Park Festival 2008. She
has a real love for the Old Jazz Standards. Her Influences include:Helen
Baylor (Gospel), Dinah Washington, Nat Cole, Frank Sinatra, Nancy
Wilson, Ruth Brown. Attended UD School of Music for Music Performance.
