About Jack Cooper


Jack Cooper is a professional woodwind player, composer/arranger, and educator. Jack served 6 years with the U.S. Army Jazz Knights as a saxophonist and staff arranger; he has backed up numerous artists over the years to include Manhattan Transfer, Kenny Rogers, Glenn Campbell, Ray Romano and the Temptations (plus a long list of others). He has over 100 music scores in publication with numerous publishers and two CDs in distribution under his own name with Centaur Records and Summit Records. His T.V. and media music credits as a composer include the Jenny Jones Show, Hollywood Xtra, and Danish Radio II broadcasts. His writing can be read in The Greenwood Encyclopedia of African American Folklore and he is a contributing writer for the text Experiencing Jazz (McGraw Hill). He is currently on the faculty at the University of Memphis Scheidt School of Music as an Associate Professor of Jazz Studies; he has taught there for 13 years.
