About Howard Gillis, Ph.D

Howard Gillis, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist who practices and teaches in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco, and is on the Teaching Faculty at the California School of Professional Psychology, Alliant International University. He has lectured nationally and internationally on child and family development, the effects of child and adult trauma, and how to help people recover from extreme life challenge. He has a longstanding interest in jazz and especially in the ways that psychology and jazz can each add to a deeper understanding of the other. He has presented at the "Brownie Speaks" Clifford Brown Symposium at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, October, 2008, and most recently presented with Alan Hood (Brown scholar and Associate Professor of Trumpet at the University of Denver) and Clifford Brown, Jr. at the Jazzschool Conference on Clifford Brown in Berkeley, California.
