About Alan Chan

“Chan has given Los Angeles a jazz big band with an utterly unique tonal personality.”
–– Kirk Silsbee (DownBeat)

Composer and arranger Alan Chan’s compositions for Jazz big band demonstrate his creative approach across musical genres, with a touch of wittiness and humor. His 17-piece Alan Chan Jazz Orchestra (ACJO) was founded in 2011, and is comprised of first call musicians in Los Angeles. ACJO appearances have included shows at Catalina, Typhoon, Vitello’s, Westin Bonaventure Hotel and ShapeShifter Lab in Brooklyn.

In April 2013, ACJO launched a fan-funded recording project. A total of nine pieces, with 60 minutes of music, was recorded with a team of 30 musicians and engineers at the Bridge Recording in Glendale, California. Their debut album “Shrimp Tale,” was subsequently released in July 2014.
