About Pete Simon

Since 1974, Pete has worked in Public and Community Radio at the University of Delaware; WHYY-FM, Philadelphia; KCSU, Fort Collins; KPRN (Colorado Public Radio), Grand Junction; and KVNF, Paonia, CO. Most recently he has been a volunteer jazz host on KUVO, Denver.

Pete's tastes in music vary widely. Travel for 8 months in the Navy in 1969-70 helped form those tastes. His jazz shows include music laced with African 6/8 rhythms and beautiful melodies from South Africa and elsewhere around the continent, Calypso, Samba, Choro, Cumbia, Tango, and Afro-Cuban.

Favorite artists include: Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Randy Weston, Abdullah Ibrahim, Sonny Rollins, Clifford Brown, Claudio Roditti, Paquito D'Rivera, Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, Abbey Lincoln, Tony Williams, Cassandra Wilson, and Bobby Hutcherson - especially when he plays marimba.
